Lindsay Morris: Finds Joy and Connection in Tulsa Places

In this episode
In this episode I sit down with Lindsay Morris, the creator of Tulsa Places, an Instagram account where she shares her love of the local spots that make our city special. What I love about Lindsay's story is how organically it grew — it started in her freshman dorm room at Oral Roberts University, where she'd sketch out hand-drawn maps of Tulsa for friends who came from out of state. Strangers started asking for maps too. That turned into a blog back in 2012, and eventually into the Instagram and Facebook pages she runs today.
Lindsay has a full-time job she genuinely enjoys, but Tulsa Places is her pastime — and it's become a real source of joy and connection in her life. We talk about how she carves out just three to five minutes a day to invest in her passion, why supporting local businesses matters so much, and how she stays honest but always positive in what she shares. She's not a food critic out to tear places down; she wants to shine a light on the good.
We also have so much fun swapping hidden gems and favorite places around T-Town — from pho and South African pastries to the Keystone Ancient Forest. And she shares the sweet tradition she's built with her friend Bernie, picking a yearly food or drink theme (burger babes, hot tamales, breakfast blondes, and this year, percolated princesses) as an excuse to deepen their friendship one outing at a time. Keep going — and don't be afraid to start that little thing you love.
Key takeaways
- You don't need a lot of time to feed your passion — Lindsay sets aside just three to five minutes a day, and that small habit fuels everything else.
- When your job is more left-brained and technical, a creative pastime can open up new spaces in your brain and become a real outlet for joy.
- Starting a social media channel is free and accessible — and you don't have to be the one in front of the camera to share something you love.
- Supporting local businesses takes a conscious effort. It's easy to default to the app, but showing up for small and medium businesses shapes the personality of our community.
- You can be honest without being harsh — Lindsay chooses to highlight what's good rather than tear places down, because there's enough negativity out there already.
- Build a sense of adventure: don't get stuck in a rut returning to the same four or five places. Try new cuisines and new spots.
- A shared pastime can deepen a friendship — Lindsay and her friend Bernie turn monthly outings into a tradition that keeps them connected.

“If you have a passion for a pastime or whatever it is, don't be afraid to start a social media channel and just run with it. It's free. Why not?”
