In this episode
In this episode it's just you and me. I'm answering one of the questions I get asked all the time: why community matters so much, who belongs in yours, and how to actually start building one. It's a topic close to my heart, because I've seen firsthand how the right people in your corner can move the needle on the thing you're called to do.
I share why support, encouragement, and accountability are such game-changers — especially when you surround yourself with people at different stages of the journey. Some who are already doing the thing you want to do, and some who are right there in the trenches with you, building alongside you. And I want to gently free you from the fear of competition. If you're truly called to something, there's no stopping you.
We talk about big, "crazy" dreams and who really gets to decide if they're crazy (spoiler: not the people on the sidelines), and I give you practical, doable places to start finding your people — co-working spaces, online connections, networking groups, and your local chamber of commerce. Wherever you are, you can build this. Keep going.
Key takeaways
- Community gives you three things you can't manufacture alone: support, encouragement, and accountability — and you get to offer those things back, too.
- Surround yourself with people at different stages — those already doing the thing you want to do, and those building right alongside you who understand the early mornings and late nights.
- Don't fear competition. If you're called to do something, there's no stopping you, and the right things will land in your path to help you move forward.
- Accountability isn't just setting goals — it's the follow-through and the follow-up with someone who will ask you about your progress.
- You're 65% more likely to achieve a result if you tell someone, and 95% more likely if you have an accountability partner who follows up regularly.
- Share your big dreams with people who believe they're possible — like the Wright brothers, who kept going until the 'crazy' thing was done.
- You don't need a big network overnight. Start with one or two or three supportive people, and look both in person and online — co-working spaces, networking groups, and your local chamber of commerce are great places to begin.
