In this episode

In this episode I sit down with my friend Dr. Neely Shenloogian, founder of Green Country Animal Chiropractic, who made a beautiful pivot — from healing people to healing animals. She and her husband Jason (a wonderful chiropractor in his own right) built a thriving human practice together, and then Neely followed a pull she'd carried since she was a little girl who wanted to pet every dog and ride every horse.

We talk about what it really looks like to trust your calling and redirect your career without losing yourself in the process. Neely walks us through the extensive certification and board exam she completed, the slow and steady way she's grown her business through referrals rather than advertising, and how she's built a life that lets her work with animals in the morning, see dogs over Jason's lunch hour, and still pick up her kids from school every day.

If you've ever felt pulled in a new direction but talked yourself out of it because it felt uncharted, this conversation is for you. Neely is honest about the fear, the sweat equity, and the patience it took — and her encouragement to take small steps forward when something is truly part of your heart is one I want you to carry with you. Keep going.

Key takeaways

  • A pivot rooted in your heart can still come with fear — Neely's calling to work with animals didn't erase her doubts, but it gave her the reason to keep stepping forward anyway.
  • Honoring your God-given gifts and talents sometimes means added schooling. Neely completed an extensive certification, additional licensing, and a board exam in Dallas to work on animals.
  • Slow, referral-based growth builds trust and patient retention. Neely and Jason have never paid for advertising — they believe people trust the recommendation of a friend.
  • Saying yes to things that don't make sense financially at first (like long drives for a single animal) can move you forward in experience and referrals.
  • You can design a business around your priorities — Neely structured her days so she could do farm calls in the morning, see dogs over Jason's lunch hour, and pick up her kids after school.
  • The energy you bring into a room matters. Neely centers and calms herself before working, because animals sense whether you truly want to be there.
  • Research the credentials behind what you see online. The 'theatrical' animal adjustments that go viral aren't always done by certified practitioners — gentle and effective is its own standard.
