Building an incredible marriage with Relationship Coach, Sandy Redmond
Never miss an episode
In this episode
In this episode I sit down with Sandy Redmond, a Laura Doyle certified relationship coach who works exclusively with women. Sandy and I actually met in the most unexpected way — over coffee on a patio, petting her adorable dog — and I just knew I didn't want to miss the chance to get to know her. That "God connection" turned into this beautiful conversation, and I'm so glad it did.
Sandy is raw and vulnerable here. She shares that even after 35 years of marriage, it wasn't always easy. About seventeen years in, with four small children and a heart full of perfectionism, she sat at her kitchen table weeping, unsure if she wanted to keep going. What changed everything wasn't her husband — it was her willingness to shift her own focus, take responsibility for her own life, and rewire her mindset toward the good that was already there.
We talk about self-care that actually fills you up, understanding how our husbands are wired, and the power of vision to pull you toward the life you truly want. I love that Sandy's story reminds us there's always room to grow — whether your marriage is thriving or struggling. Keep going.
Key takeaways
- Vision drives change. When Sandy got clear on the life-giving, passionate marriage she truly wanted, the resources and answers started showing up in her life.
- Coaching focuses forward. Unlike counseling that centers on past hurts, Sandy's approach asks 'Where do you want to go and who do you want to be?' — then works backward to get there.
- Self-care isn't frivolous — it's the oxygen mask. You can't give from an empty cup, so pursue the things that genuinely bring you joy (for Sandy, it was joining a beginners' tennis group).
- Happy people are magnetic. When Sandy started having real fun, her husband wanted in — he ended up joining her on the tennis court.
- Get off your spouse's paper. When you stop trying to change someone else and take responsibility for your own life, you free them to grow on their own — Sandy's husband eventually got his own coach.
- What you focus on grows. Sandy journaled evidence of every little thing her husband did to make her happy — 58 pages in three months — and it transformed how she saw him.
- The ripple effect is real. Doing the inner work didn't just change Sandy's marriage; it changed her relationships with her adult children too.
